Grizzly Flats Farm is located in beautiful western Michigan,
about 2 hours north of the Indiana boarder, just 5 miles east of US
131.

We have been blessed to be raising Whitetail Deer since 2003 and it
has quickly become a passion for us. This has been an
adventure that our entire family has become a part of, and we
couldn't do it without them. Because we take pride in what we
do and love the animals that we are raising, we strive to provide
only the best of everything for them. After a lot of research, and traveling to many different farms, we
were able to plan the layout of our farm and design a first class
handling facility. Our farm is situated on 80 acres, with
about 40 acres under fence. The pens are divided into eight 3.5
acre pens and five 1 acre fawning pens which are completely lined with shade
cloth. All of our pens and fields are seeded with
alfalfa so the deer have fresh grazing and we are able to bale our
own hay for the winter.
Keeping our deer as stress-free as possible is our
number one priority as we believe it is crucial to our herd
health and success. A calm herd is obviously a stress-free
herd. Anytime deer have to be run through a
handling facility is an extremely stressful time for the animals.
The less time in the barn, the less stress on the animal. That
is why we have designed our handling facility to allow for minimum
human contact. Our barn layout of alleyways, separators, and
stalls all work together for a smooth entrance into, and exit from,
our customized chute. We have 5 small holding pens behind the
barn which are used for temporary holding or sorting the deer in a simple
and efficient way that is as safe as possible for all involved -
animals and humans. The deer can be moved from pen to pen,
sorted, and observed without ever having contact with a human. This also means that, due to our unique facility
design, all of our animals are able to be loaded for transporting
without the use of tranquilizing drugs.
